Self-care is a comfort+cozy experience

Self-care with Tea

As we’ve mentioned many times before, we believe that cozy is a comforting experience. It can be different for everyone, from curling up with a good book to enjoying your favorite comfort food.  However, self-care as a lifestyle is also part of the comforting and cozy experience . Sometimes it can be very difficult to relax our minds or shift our routines.  Focusing on our own health and well being in the middle of caring about those we love.

For us, tea is something we include in our efforts to become better about self-care. It’s something simple to incorporate into your routine whether you’re at home, at work, or on the go!

It’s hard to imagine how something as simple as a cup of tea could be considered an act of self-care. However, the experience that is generated around the act of brewing and drinking tea is quite unique. The tea experience can serve as a reminder to slow down and enjoy things and not get swept away by the day! Comforting + cozy teas are especially good for this. The calming experience combined with smooth tasty flavors creates an experience that allows you to take the feeling of comfort + cozy with you throughout your day. Some of our favorites for this type of experience are Spiced Coco-Mint, Winter Apple Herbal, Scarlett Romantic Blend, Rosebud Black, and more!

It just so happens that we will be sampling some of our favorite cozy and wintry flavors this Saturday during a FREE all day (10am-4pm) tasting event! Come by and taste the teas mentioned above as well as others and try before you buy!  10% off all wintry favorite teas at the event – and a great chance to shop Valentine’s Day Gift Guide with a 10% discount!

Make a commitment to yourself to take better care of you and find a tea that will help you do it. Megan will be at the shop during the Wintry Tea Tasting of our Comfort + Cozy teas to answer any questions or help you select teas that are perfect for you this weekend. Hope to see you there!

Meet the artist behind the tea plant

artisan-cans-collage

Meet the artist

Lee, Ben, and Baby-on-the-way!

We love tea.  But, if you know our family…you know we love people even more!  It’s a great day when a door opens and these two worlds (tea+people) collide.

We feel this new door opening with our artisan tea cans.   Our gorgeous hand-drawn artisan labels are popping up in unique and special locations.  Hammerhand Coffee, Irish Crystal, and The Elms Hotel and Spa.

22 of our premium leaves, rooibos, and herbals are available in the artisan cans with the simple pencil sketches of the young artist.  Her nature-inspired idea won our hearts. The simplistic yet refined sketches speak the nature, the earthy, and the timeless way the tea leaf has given people a place for celebration and a place to heal.  A place to feel good.

Meet the Artist

Tea Plant

So, have you seen the cans? They are beautiful!  And to see the artisan tea cans you have to know the artist.  Lee.  Lee is a darling woman from Columbia, Missouri.  A new mom (baby is almost here – like a trickle of days away!)  A full time art and design student for ten years allowed Lee the skills to execute any design challenge.

Rooibos Plant

Rooibos Plant

Lee is currently a full time design team member at Pinnacle Graphics helping her mom Kim with a variety of design projects. Most recently, the two designed the logo, package design and illustrations for Anna Marie’s Tea. Once Kim finalized the logo, Lee completed three beautiful pencil sketches for representing the Leaves, Rooibos, and Herbals that we carry.

A diverse line of nature that is loose, premium and trustworthy.

We are so excited to have prints of Lee’s hand drawn pencil sketches in our new location!  7 W. Franklin Street.  The natural and organic look is so pretty tucked into the re-purposed historic location on the Liberty Square!

Getting ready for Fairies in the Garden

Fairies in the Garden Every July we have two days of super fun with little ones and fun fairies of all ages!  It’s sort of like planning and running a grand birthday party for all our guests.  The Fairy Tea Party is traditionally similar each year – 3 Fairy Crafts, A Fairy Tea Party with books, A Fairy Walk and few more fun fairy ideas.  One year we even celebrated someone’s 101st Birthday at our Fairy Party!

Order Tickets: 2016 Fairies in the Garden Tea Party

Some years the girls enjoyed dancing in a Fairy Ring – other years have brought different silly fun ways to enjoy the imaginations of little ones (and even us older ones get a chance to have silly-fairy-fun, too!

Tinley and Cooper's Fairy House

Tinley and Cooper’s Fairy Houses

The inspiration to host an annual Fairies Tea Party was born from several different ideas. But, one idea came a darling book we read one summer called Fairy Houses by Tracy Kane.  A story about a little girl who spends the summer building a cozy fairy house in a nook of a tree.  The fairy house she built kept her imagination creating all summer long little things she could add to her fairy house.  Wren, Molly, and Haden had one summer building Fairy houses at a fishing cabin in Arkansas – and this year I was so excited to have my great niece and nephew – Tinley and Cooper join Wren and I in building their own fairy houses in the nook of that same old Arkansas tree.

2016 Fairies in the Garden Tea Party held on July 8 and 9 at 9:30 am.  Tickets are still available for both days – but order quickly!

Flower Power Tea

Tea & FlowersJasmine, Rose, Hibiscus.  Blooming flowers of summertime.  Beauty in the garden and tasty flavors in our cuppas! Next week, July 8-9 we look forward to our Fairies in the Garden Tea Party.  A party that shifts focus from just tea…to flowers & tea. Truly a joy to watch the innocent imaginations bloom as we take our Fairy Walk in Brenda’s Gardens!  Also, a good mid-way point of our year providing opportunity for mothers, grandmothers, and little ones a time to stop and ‘smell the roses.’

Lavender. Cornflowers. Sunflowers. Calendula (Marigolds). It is amazing how many of our premium loose leaf teas are carefully blended with flower buds and petals.  Blended in to add flavor and eye appeal.  The flower petals or buds are brewing right beside the tea leaves – opening up flavors and fragrance. Blooming flowers which soothes so many of our souls both inside and out.  Chamomile. Safflowers. Outdoors in the gardens and inside our cups of tea.

Flowering Herbs are also an important part of special premium loose leaf blends.  We offer several herbs that make great add-ins to flavor or enhance another tea such as Simply Peppermint and our newest – Stevia Leaves.   Loose leaves are brewed just like a tea.  The sweet liquid can be used as a healthy sweetener added to hot or iced teas.  Here’s a great list of other herbs and flowers on GardenKnowHow.com. The article includes brewing directions and even health benefits.  More Flower Power to you!

Midwest Tea Fest – Kansas City’s affinity for tea

Midwest Tea FestPeople love their affinities.  Call us hobbyists, collectors, or connoisseurs.  Affinities encompass – the accouterments, pursuit of, hidden treasures, and sharing & expanding of knowledge.  We enjoy our affinities and the satisfaction that comes with a shared experience with others who have the same affinity as our own.   That satisfying place where we can say “Yes, these are my people!”

Tea Drinkers…come and find your people on Saturday, May 7.  The 2nd Annual Midwest Tea Fest.  Kansas City’s very own shared affinity for all things ‘Tea-ing‘ in the Midwest.  How we drink our tea, why we drink tea, the accouterments,  tea sippings, and simply connecting with others who share your affinity for tea.

All types of tea, all types of tea drinking life styles, all types of people.  The tea community – gathered together in one place sharing the experience of “tea-ing” in Kansas City.

The Teashop Family is excited to be a part of this amazing event in Kansas City!  We will be in our Anna Tea Shop booth sampling 20 of our favorite teas through out the day.  Look for Brenda over at the Cafe Tea Tastings and Two special Tea Presentations.  We look forward meeting new faces and embracing old tea friends.  A place where we say “Yes.  These are my people”.
